Concept
This was an interior and landscape project for a newly built villa in Mauritius. The owner of the property asked us to create a luxury-styled villa, that would then be used for holiday rentals on Airbnb. The property market in Mauritius is huge, and therefore we wanted to create a space that was truly tranquil and gave visitors a unique island atmosphere.
Name
The property has the name of Trezó/Trésor - referring to the Mauritian creole/French word for 'treasure'- as we and the owners believe it to be a treasure along the Mauritian coastline!
Interior Design
The villa is divided in two parts: a communal living space and a separate sleeping area. It is situated ideally on the Flic en Flac coastline, with sea views looking out onto the Indian Ocean. In the initial site visit, the majority of the living space was contained by four walls. Therefore the decision was made to install 6 glass French doors, to make sure that visitors could enjoy panoramic views as soon as they stepped into the villa. The design takes inspiration from the deep history of the island, that can still be seen today: dark wood, antique maps, luscious vegetation all take place within the scheme. We have stitched this tradition with modernity to create the perfect island villa for guests. To ooze a sense of luxury within the space, specific materials and furniture has been selected. The majority of the materials are locally sourced, to create a truly authentic island aesthetic. A large, bespoke rattan chandelier looms over the living space to accentuate the pyramid roof structure. In each bedroom, hangs unique batik artwork native to the island- each representing colours of the Mauritian flag.
Branding
The concept comes from the idea of Airbnb being a treasure map for holiday seekers, who, after doing their research, would stumble upon this treasure or a property. Aiming to challenge the local hotels, providing a more authentic, and budget friendly option, while also maintaining high quality of design taste & customer experience. For the branding we used the brand name as the starting point - we wanted to pressurise the idea of this apartment being a rare find - a real treasure - therefore we went with classic treasure hunting-imagery, as well as putting modern elements in the mix, relating to the heavily digital nature of holiday home seeking of today. The logo is the epitome of this concept; a combination of the location icon mixed with the shape of a vintage looking treasure chest aiming to bring old and new together to create something exciting and unique. The brand aims to awaken the sense for adventure - and what could be more adventurous than travelling to a tropical island far far away?
